Free Things to Do in Wexford

As parents we know how expensive it can be to entertain the kids, so we thought we would put together a list of things to do for free with the children, yes, that are completely free of charge.  You know, when you are looking for kids things to do, things to do when bored, the things to do for free!

Mar-daffodil There is a free Gallery Programme run by the Wexford Arts Centre for schools and groups of children where Wexford Arts Centre offers guided tours and artist-led workshops that are tailored to suit children of all ages, from early years to adolescents. To book a tour or workshop please contact the arts centre. Free of charge, booking essential.

Mar-daffodil Wexford Book Centre host free events every saturday such as storytelling, puppetry or facepainting. All events 11-12:30. All Materials provided. Tel: (053) 912 3543

Mar-daffodil There are lots of great playgrounds in Wexford, some of the best to be found in Wexford. They each have extensive grounds so bring along a picnic and a ball, a great day out!

Mar-daffodil Take a day-trip to Kilmore Quay. There is a state of the art playground there which we always hit first as its just beside the car park,, which overlooks the beautiful Saltee Islands. Then when the kids have had thier fill, we take a walk down the pier to get the adults blood moving. There are usually some sea lions there surrounding recently docked fishing boats which the kids love! An optional finishing touch is to treat the kids to famous fish and chips.. or an ice-cream.

Mar-daffodil Go to the beach! Anywhere along the coast in Wexford we have fantastic beaches. Long sandy beaches are great in winter and summer. Stony beaches are great for rock pooling and crabbing. Pick a different one to explore. Buckets and spades are optional but make sure you have some pocket room for shells and stones.
Walk or cycle with the kids. My article on Wexford walks doesn't go out of date!
Mar-daffodil Most children love to read or be read to so bring them along to your local library a great way to spend an hour or two. Keep an eye out for the regular free library events and activities too. Or just keep an eye on the Mykidstime Wexford home page and I'll keep you in the know!
Mar-daffodilThere are also plenty of Galleries in Wexford that don't charge entry fees so you could visit with the kids and look at some local Art. Kids love pictures and may even be inspired to present an exhibition at home! vMy friend's son was quite an informed little 6 year old and when a child in his class told him he was colouring outside the lines he replied "a painter in spain always painted outside the lines, his name is picasso!"
